Our Take on Baseball Nicknames
We're baseball fans.
Yes, the Two Old Broads are true-blue, dyed-in-the-wool Cleveland Indians fans. No, our team does not suck. They have their problems. But honestly, they don't suck. (You may have to just trust us on this one.)
Anyway, to talk about baseball, and not about the Indians, a couple weeks ago we had a series against Kansas City, and we keep hearing about this pitcher named Gil Meche (pronounced Mesh). We've been hearing about this guy since last year, and every time I hear his name, I just want to know what his parents were thinking, and especially whether his middle name is Ga (pronounced Guh).
OK, so you have to be really old like us to get this one. My husband commented, as I was writing this, that he's a Real Olde Tyme pitcher from the Sumerian League. You probably have to be even older than us Old Broads to get that one.
Supposedly it's a tradition for baseball players to have oddball nicknames. So when are they going to start calling Mr. Meche "Gilga"?
Speaking of nicknames (and getting back to the Indians), what's with Asdrubal Cabrera? Sorry, ladies, "Ass-man" is not an appropriate nickname for a guy playing in a sport that is supposed to appeal to 8-year-old boys. We Old Broads vote for "Dru" as a nickname. Any other family-friendly suggestions are welcome.
Incidentally, any other Indians fans reading this are invited to visit our site at http://www.ketchupcheats.com/.

P.S. Next Sunday's edition may appear on a different day or not at all, as we will be in Columbus at the Marcon science fiction convention (www.marcon.org)
